The saying can be found in Rawdhat Al-Kafi p. 23, however, it comes through the path of Mohammad bin Ali Al-Tameemi and Mohammad bin Ali bin Ma’amar, who are both anonymous according to Al-Jawahiri in Al-Mufeed min Mu’jam Rijal Al-Hadith p. 555-556. The saying was also narrated by Ibn Shu’bah in Tuhaf Al-Uqool p. 97, but it doesn’t include a chain.

The saying can also be found in Al-Amali p. 2/250 by Al-Tusi, but it comes through the path of Abu Al-Mufadhal Mohammad bin Abdullah Al-Shaybani. Refer to his biography in Rijal Al-Najashi. Al-Ayyashi narrates it in his Tafseer 2/103 as well but does not provide a chain.

The saying can be found in Al-Amali p. 371 by Al-Saduq and Al-Karajuki’s Kanz Al-Fawa’id p. 270. Al-Saduq’s chain includes Mohammad bin Sinan while Al-Karajki’s chain includes Mohammad bin Abdullah Al-Shaybani. Refer to #9 and #55 above.

Sayings 78
The saying can be found in Al-Kafi 1/155, Al-Tawheed p. 273 and Uyoon Akhbar Al-Redha 1/138 by Al-Saduq, and Al-Karajuki’s Kanz Al-Fawa’id p. 169. The chain in Al-Kafi contains a major disconnection. Al-Saduq’s chains are connected, however, they contains issues with the narrators. One chain includes Sahl bin Ziyad, who was accused of fabrication. See Rijal Al-Najashi. A second chain contains Sulaiman bin Mohammad Al-Qurashi, who is unknown in status. The third includes Mohammad bin Abdullah bin Nujaih, who is anonymous according to Al-Jawahiri in Al-Mufeed min Mu’jam Rijal Al-Hadith p. 545. The fourth chain includes Al-Abbas bin Bakkar Al-Dhabbi who is also anonymous according to Al-Jawahiri p. 300. Al-Karajuki’s chain is the same as Al-Saduq’s second chain. The saying also exists in Tuhaf Al-Uqool p. 468 but without a chain.

The saying can be found in a shortened variation in Al-Barqi’s Al-Mahsin 1/230, however, Mohammad bin Ali is not known as there are many narrators with that name.

Al-Saduq also narrates the saying in his Al-Khisal 1/149 with two chains. The first chain is through Abdullah bin Ahmad Al-Ta’ee, who is anonymous according to Al-Jawahiri p. 325, while the second chain goes through Al-Sari bin Isma’eel who is also unknown.

The saying can be found in Rawdhat Al-Kafi p. 307, Al-Khisal 1/22 and Al-Amali p. 62 by Al-Saduq, and Al-Mahasin 1/29 by Al-Barqi. It comes through two main chains. One of the chains of Al-Saduq includes an anonymous narrator. The other sources all include the same chain and it comes through Al-Nawfali, who is seen as reliable by those that accept the general tawtheeqaat of Tafseer Al-Qummi.
Verdict: The saying may be authentic according to some Shia scholars.
